Crowell & Moring Counsel Kate Growley Named a Law360 2018 Cybersecurity & Privacy 'Rising Star'

Washington – August 22, 2018: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that Kate M. Growley, counsel in the firm’s Privacy & Cybersecurity, Government Contracts, and Litigation groups, has been named to Law360’s 2018 list of “Rising Stars” in the Cybersecurity & Privacy category. Editors selected 168 lawyers under age 40 who have made outstanding career accomplishments in their respective practice areas.

A founding member of the firm’s nationally recognized Privacy & Cybersecurity Group, Growley represents clients on a wide range of counseling and litigation engagements, including cybersecurity compliance reviews, risk assessments, incident response, law enforcement cooperation, regulatory investigations, data breach class actions, trade secrets litigation, and health care disputes. Law360 notes that she advises “dozens of contractors on how to handle cyber incidents stemming from malware, negligent employees, and foreign-state actor intrusions.” In addition, Law360 highlights Growley’s role in class actions stemming from a 2015 cyberattack on a major health system.

Growley is a Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) and regularly trains clients, regulators, and other attorneys on cyber and data security issues. She also is co-chair of the American Bar Association’s Science & Technology Section's Homeland Security Committee and vice-chair of the Public Contract Law Section’s Cybersecurity, Privacy, & Data Protection Committee.

Law360 notes Growley’s representation last year as part of a Crowell & Moring team that successfully defended Dennis Hasty, the former warden of Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, before the Supreme Court as part of a long-running suit regarding the investigation and detention of various individuals following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Five of the six claims were dismissed entirely, and the last remanded for further consideration, which Growley referred to as a satisfying “culmination of many years of work.”

No aspect of this advertisement has been approved by the Bars of, or any courts in, the jurisdictions in which the lawyers are admitted to practice.
