Crowell & Moring’s Terry Rea Named to Managing IP’s “Top 250 Women in IP” List

Washington – July 29, 2021: Managing IP has named Crowell & Moring’s Terry Rea, a partner in the Intellectual Property Group, to the 2021 edition of the “Top 250 Women in IP” list. The annual list recognizes “senior female IP practitioners in private practice who have performed exceptionally for their clients and firms in the past year.”

Rea is a recognized authority on intellectual property law, and has advised on IP issues in the public and private sectors. She is the former acting director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), as well as acting undersecretary of commerce for intellectual property. She led the USPTO through the implementation of the America Invents Act, the landmark legislation to overhaul the nation’s patent system signed into law in 2011. She also previously served as an administrative patent judge on the Patent Trial and Appeals Board.  

Rea’s practice concentrates on working with clients in several key areas, including IP policies and strategies, patent enforcement, litigation and post-grant administrative proceedings, especially in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. She is highly experienced in pharmaceutical and biologics patent issues, including Abbreviated New Drug Application litigation and Biologics Price Competition and Innovation Act litigation. Her life sciences patent work also includes consulting on FDA Orange Book matters, product life cycle management, patent term adjustment, and patent term extension, as well as supplemental protection certificates outside the United States. A major part of Rea’s current practice involves inter partes reviews before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Managing IP previously named Rea one of the “Top 50 Most Influential People in Intellectual Property” and in May 2020, she was inducted into the Intellectual Property Hall of Fame by Intellectual Asset Management. She is also the former president of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
