IAM Names Crowell & Moring Partner Teresa Rea to Intellectual Property Hall of Fame

Washington – May 20, 2020: Intellectual Asset Management has named Teresa "Terry" Stanek Rea to the Intellectual Property Hall of Fame in recognition of her service and innovation in the IP industry.

Since its inception in 2006, the IP Hall of Fame has inducted individuals “who have made a game-changing, positive impact on the global IP landscape.” Selections each year are made by distinguished members of the global IP community, as well as previous inductees to the Hall of Fame.

“I am honored and humbled to be selected for membership in the IP Hall of Fame,” said Rea. “As a member of the IP community for almost 40 years, I have had a great deal of respect for the talented members of the IP Hall of Fame. The importance of IP to the economy continues to increase and it is clear that IP is a great motivator for innovation. I thank the Academy for this honor and I thank the many IP practitioners whose vision created the systems and precedents that we rely on today.”

In selecting Rea, IAM noted her previous roles in government and her commitment to increasing diversity in IP law. Rea, vice-chair of the IP group at Crowell & Moring, is the former acting and deputy director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, as well as acting and deputy under secretary of the Commerce Department for intellectual property. She brings a wealth of domestic and international experience and skills to her practice, both legal and political. Her practice concentrates on working with clients in several key areas, including IP policies and strategies, patent enforcement, litigation and post-grant administrative proceedings, especially in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries.

IAM noted that in her role at the USPTO, Rea led the implementation of the America Invents Act, landmark legislation to overhaul the nation’s patent system signed into law by President Obama in 2011. The act incorporated reforms to the patent application process. Rea’s duties included leading the implementation of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. She is also the former president of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
