Since the earliest days of Crowell & Moring, aerospace and defense clients have been central to our practice. We have represented two-thirds of the companies in the Fortune 500 listing for the aerospace industry — including all of the top seven corporations. We represent clients before the General Services Administration, the Department of Defense, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the Government Accountability Office, the Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals, the Court of Federal Claims and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

We regularly counsel clients on issues involving federal privacy legislation such as the Privacy Act, Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), DIACAP, NIST, USA PATRIOT Act. Additionally, we advise on matters such as cyber warfare, electronic workplace monitoring, security breach notification laws, HSPD authentication and biometrics, and federal electronic surveillance.

We have represented many clients in government investigations, as well as in inquiries involving potential environmental violations, payments to foreign agents, export control, FAA certification and others. We have also prepared claims and litigated disputes involving major commercial airplane development programs, foreign and domestic joint venture agreements, monopolization claims under the antitrust laws, product liability and a host of other issues.

Our lawyers regularly handle major transactions in connection with mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, prime/sub contracts, as well as compliance and reporting programs and procedures. We also provide legal guidance on the unique equal employment, affirmative action requirements and organized labor issues affecting that industry.

Together with our colleagues at C&M International, the firm's public policy and government relations affiliate, we advise clients on a broad range of multinational trade issues. For example, our team succeeded in adding provisions to the most recent General Agreement on Trade & Tariffs (GATT) round that were advantageous to domestic aerospace companies.

Among recent engagements, we have represented the following:

  • Alcoa
  • BAE Systems
  • Hamilton Sundstrand
  • Integrated BioTherapeutics
  • Kaman Corporation
  • National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases
  • Pratt & Whitney
  • United Technologies Corporation
