Ashley (Lee) McMahon


Ashley (Lee) McMahon is a counsel in Crowell & Moring’s Washington, D.C. office and is a member of the firm’s Antitrust & Competition Group. She advises and represents clients on complex issues relating to and arising under the antitrust laws in connection with civil and criminal litigation, government investigations, international cartels, and mergers and acquisitions. She assists clients with premerger notification, review, and analysis under the Hart-Scott-Rodino (HSR) Antitrust Improvements Act. Lee is experienced in areas of e-discovery, document review, and production for investigations before the FTC, DOJ, and state attorneys general, as well as international competition agencies. Her experience spans multiple industries, including manufacturing, technology, health care, and consumer products.

Lee’s recent experience includes:

  • Representing a Japanese automotive parts manufacturer in the antitrust multi-district litigation relating to automotive parts following DOJ investigation and resolution.
  • Representing a major health care provider in a grand jury investigation alleging no-poaching agreements.
  • Represented a health care IT solutions company in an FTC investigation and follow-on class action litigation alleging exclusive dealing arrangements.
  • Represented a pharmaceutical manufacturer in multi-district litigation alleging price-fixing of generic drugs.
  • Obtained regulatory clearance in multiple complex acquisitions, often involving Second Requests, for numerous clients.

Lee also maintains an active pro bono practice and has won political- and social group-based immigration asylum for clients. As a law clerk for the Parole Division of the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, she represented clients before the U.S. Parole Commission at probable cause and parole revocation hearings, and won release for clients. In law school, she also interned for the Charlottesville Public Defender’s Office and New Orleans Public Defenders.

Lee spent nearly four years as a paralegal before law school, where she provided principal assistance at trials, hearings, and depositions involving a range of issues including indigent criminal defense, employment, environmental, malpractice, white-collar, and False Claims Act litigation.

Lee earned her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2016. While in law school, Lee served as editor-in-chief of the Virginia Journal of Criminal Law. She represented clients as part of the University of Virginia School of Law’s Innocence Project Clinic, was a fellow in the Law and Public Service Program, and served on the board of the Public Interest Law Association. She received her B.A. in psychology, magna cum laude with distinction in the major, from the Connecticut College in 2009.
