Discovery Attorney

Julie G. Bush is a discovery attorney in the E-Discovery & Information Management Practice in Crowell & Moring’s Washington, D.C. office. Julie’s practice focuses on electronic discovery and information management issues in a wide range of practice areas, including complex commercial disputes, government investigations, consumer protection claims, and mergers and acquisitions. She is experienced in all phases of discovery, including formulating discovery strategy, data collection and preservation, document review management, technology-assisted review methods, and privilege protection and challenge. Julie counsels and represents clients in federal court, state court, and arbitration. She also advises clients and case teams on data review technologies and analytics to meet specific case needs with focus on time and cost efficiencies.

Prior to joining Crowell & Moring, Julie practiced in consumer protection and civil rights. For the United States Commission on Civil Rights, she researched and edited formal reports on complex and emerging civil rights and policy issues. With the Consumer Protection Bureau of the Federal Trade Commission, Julie investigated and litigated unfair and deceptive trade practices including deceptive, auto-renewing internet payday loans; misleading marketing of non-traditional mortgages; and phony pop-up scares designed to sell consumers unnecessary software. She also convened roundtable discussions among diverse stakeholders on debt collection, leading to findings and policy recommendations to improve the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Julie started her career as an Equal Justice Works Fellow combatting predatory lending for a legal services agency. Through this work, she gained experience in discovery, electronically stored information, and information management.

Julie’s pro bono practice includes serving homeless and housing-compromised clients of the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless and facilitating name and gender change issues for clients of Whitman-Walker Legal Services in the District of Columbia and Maryland.
