Nicola Phillips


Nicola Phillips is a partner in the London office of Crowell & Moring and a member of the International Dispute Resolution Group. She has a diverse practice, advising on all aspects of civil litigation and has vast experience of High Court litigation, as well as alternative dispute resolution. Nicola manages large compliance investigations and has experience of acting for both regulators and large financial institutions responding to governmental enforcement enquiries. She also has significant experience of large complex civil frauds and regularly obtains injunctive relief to assist with asset preservation. Her other practice areas include asset-based lending, trade finance, infrastructure, energy, insurance, and employment-related disputes.

Representative Matters

  • Acted for a multinational conglomerate in an ongoing LCIA arbitration arising from a US$400m rail infrastructure project in the Middle East. The dispute relates to contractual performance of the Scope of Work and the diversion of funds between Consortium Partners.
  • Acting for two European regulators investigating a domestic bank’s policies and practices in respect of a deliberate and orchestrated scheme of money laundering across high-risk jurisdictions. Managing a large team’s document review, reporting findings of review, and giving evidence before Magisterial Inquiry.
  • Leading on a commercial dispute relating to the misappropriation of €16m in respect of a contract for the supply of Naphtha. Successfully challenging an injunction obtained from the Latvian Court and obtaining injunctive relief from the English High Court. Negotiating the sale of the disputed product and recovering full payment. Obtaining Security for Costs and strike out of Part 20 claim.
  • Acting on behalf of corporate client in its claim against its former MLRO in a multimillion-pound fraud, to obtain a damages judgment, as well as committal for contempt, and secured an asset recovery.
