Emmanuel studied at the Catholic University of Namur (1989, jur. cand., cum laude) for two years and earned his law degree at the law faculty of the Catholic University of Leuven (1992, jur. lic., cum laude). He spent six months at the University of Siena (Italy) in 1992, on the Erasmus exchange program. He has been a member of the Brussels Bar since 1993.

Emmanuel is fluent in French, Dutch and English and has a basic grasp of Italian.

Emmanuel has published several articles in law journals. He published a reference work on union delegations and is currently preparing a book regarding transfer of undertakings.

Emmanuel is a member of the editorial board of "Chroniques du droit social," one of the leading labor law journals in Belgium, and leads the individual labor law practice group of the journal.  He was a guest-lecturer at the Institut Supérieur Economique d'Ixelles, where he taught social legislation.

He frequently conducts seminars for executives and company managers.

Emmanuel was recognized by the 2015, 2016, and 2017 editions of Chambers Europe in the area of employment law. Emmanuel was also recommended in the 2013 edition of the Legal 500 EMEA for Corporate and M&A and for Labor & Employment as a "service-oriented" lawyer, who provides "excellent, timely, well-reasoned advice." In 2016, Legal 500 EMEA described Emmanuel as "responsive and pragmatic," showing "exceptional attention to detail."
