Risa Rahman


Risa Rahman is an associate in the Patent & ITC Litigation group at Crowell & Moring’s Washington, D.C. office. Risa’s practice focuses on patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secrets litigation in both district courts and before the International Trade Commission.

Prior to Crowell & Moring, Risa’s practice focused on complex intellectual property matters relating to patent disputes. Using her computer science background, she secured and protected intellectual property for Fortune 500 companies by preparing and successfully prosecuting patent applications directed to cutting-edge areas of technology, including, data privacy, artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, encryption, and video analytics systems. Risa additionally prepared petition and preliminary patent owner responses to inter partes review for networking technologies.

Risa has a keen interest in advertising and brand protection issues. She previously represented early-stage clients (i.e., entrepreneurs, VCs, and start-ups) in copyright, trademark, and trade dress litigation and prosecution in various industries, such as, music, media, entertainment, retail, e-commerce, health care, and food and beverage. She also provided emerging companies with solutions for structuring private equity securities offerings in multiple rounds of financings, including, seed financing, angel investment, and venture capital financing.

Risa earned degrees in Computer Science, Political Science, and Women and Gender Studies at Arizona State University. She earned her J.D. from Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University. During law school, Risa was the vice president of the Intellectual Property Student Association and a moot court oral advocate for the National Appellate Advocacy Competition. With an interest in design IP issues, Risa’s law school independent study centered on the strength of trade dress, copyright, and design patent infringement causes of action in fashion IP disputes.
