Zhongdong Zhang is senior counsel in our Shanghai office. Zhongdong concentrates her practice in transactions and international trade. She has advised major technology, manufacturing, and other multinational companies on investments, formation, and operation of private equity funds, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, regulatory compliance, and investigations. She has also advised clients on cross-border protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights, including online brand protection, anti-counterfeiting & trademark piracy and trademark counterfeiting enforcement.

Zhongdong started her career as an in-house counsel at a PRC conglomerate. Later she moved to Singapore working in private practice for major Singaporean law firms. With more than 25 years of experience representing and advising clients on various aspects of business, Zhongdong understands the need to provide practical business solutions and legal guidance in a challenging regulatory environment. Zhongdong has been the managing partner of the Shanghai offices of two major international law firms in her career prior to joining Crowell & Moring - Shanghai.

  • Advised U.S. and EU companies on regulatory issues in relation to PPE procurement from China including COVID-19 testing kits, masks, sanitizer, and thermometers.
  • Advised a leading U.S. security solutions provider on China cybersecurity and data privacy compliance issues in relation to the products launch in China.
  • Advised a leading U.S. hardware and technology integration service provider on PRC Cybersecurity Law and data privacy issues.
  • Advised a leading U.S. pharmaceutical packaging manufacturer on commercial contracts, government regulatory requirements, ethical compliance, cross-border data transfer, and other issues in relation to its operations.
  • Advised a U.S. medical device company in its joint venture establishment and licensing arrangement in China.
  • Represented a Fortune 500 manufacturer and engineering solutions provider in multiple acquisitions of China assets and subsidiaries.
  • Represented a major commercial and industrial paper products manufacturer in competitive auctions for assets and subsidiaries in Asia-Pacific.
  • Advised a U.S. private equity fund in its investment in China including corporate restructuring.
  • Advised a pioneering foreign invested private equity fund in its investments, establishment of sub-funds in China.
